Don't Judge By The Cover

Thursday, March 25, 2010

I've always felt a bit like a sheep in wolves' clothing.

I look very girl next door.

Forgettable.

Maybe cute, but not sexy.

People usually assume I'm sweet and maybe a little naive.

I attract over sharing like a magnet. I also get a bewildering amount of unsolicited advice.

My first real boss actually patted me on the head once.

It used to really bother me. (Especially the head patting. That was just awkward.)

But I've come to realize that there is great power in being underestimated.

In the right situation, I'm totally not above abusing it.

After all, I'm not nearly as innocent as I look.

Hear hear!

I have a similar appearance, and I love when people hear some of the things that do come out of my mouth when they are just getting to know me. It is a bit thrilling!

I'm right there with you.

People ALWAYS assume I am sweet and innocent, based on my appearance. I kind of delight in the fact that they'll open up about their true feelings on things that they think have nothing to do with me...which actually happen to be my hot-button issues.

Head patting is definitely awkward, and inappropriate. I can't think of any time that would be an appropriate gesture between coworkers.

Hi Scarlett - Thanks for coming by and leaving your comment on my blog. I've experienced something very similar in my life. People have often assumed that I am somehow refined. I've known people to gasp when I swear: "I never expected that of you!" It's funny. I can also be kind of quiet and introspective, not as "out there" as others, but I've discovered there's a lot of power, as you say, in flying slightly under the radar.

I love dropping "F" bombs. No one ever expects it from me.

People think I am very easy going and to put it another way, that they can run over me. When I've had enough, they get a big surprise.
